Today is National Leathercraft Day. Time to strap in!
The annual observance was started in 2018 by the Tandy Leather Company to highlight the skills of leather-crafters throughout the nation. But we’re repurposing the holiday to suit our specific needs: showcasing the leather gays among us.
Some of them praised the material in a recent Reddit thread.
“It exudes hyper-masculinity, power, bad boy, and it is erotic being rubbed up against you,” one said.

“Sends a very direct message, comfy, indestructible, and just plain damn sexy,” another person added. “Basically like wearing heavy, full-body armor and being naked at the same time.”
“The smell of leather is just so erotic,” one user replied.
And a fourth commenter quoted Paul Lynde: “Because chiffon wrinkles too easily.”

Leather daddies are having a moment thanks to Pillion—but they never really left
Before they were movie icons in Pillion, leather daddies ruled queer nightlife and reshaped masculinity.
As Another Man reported in 2019, leather culture took off in the U.S in the mid-20th century, as servicemen returned from WWII and formed homoerotic bonds with one another. Soon, leather—and black leather in particular—grew to signify a sex-positive masculinity.
Cultural depictions of men in leather—from artists like Tom of Finland and Robert Mapplethorpe and actors like Marlon Brando and James Dean—led people like Max, a gay man from London, to become a leatherman himself.
“There’s nothing hotter than the feeling of leather on my skin, it’s peak masculinity,” Max told the magazine. “It’s just so f’ing masculine. The more masculine I’ve become over time, the more I’ve been into it. When I wear leathers, it feels like my exterior is reflecting my interior.”
We’d reckon some of the leather lovers below would agree. Here are #gayleather and #leathergay posts from across social media…
