Queer Blackout Poetry Workshop with Faerie Press

Part of Belfast Pride Festival 2026

Celebrate Belfast Pride with an evening of creativity, community and queer storytelling at Faerie Press’s Blackout Poetry Workshop.

Whether you’re an experienced writer or simply curious to try something new, this relaxed workshop is open to everyone. Using existing pages of books or poetry, you’ll create your own unique blackout poems by selecting words and phrases that resonate with you, transforming old texts into original works of art.

This workshop is a celebration of queer voices, self-expression and the joy of creating together. It’s also an opportunity to spend time in a welcoming, inclusive and affirming space where LGBTQIA+ people and allies can meet new people, share ideas and explore creativity in a supportive environment.

You’re welcome to bring your own books, poems or markers if you’d like to work with something personal, but we will also provide a selection of poetry and all the materials you’ll need.

About Faerie Press

Faerie Press is the first LGBTQ+ led children’s publishing company on the island of Ireland. As a completely volunteer-led Community Interest Company, we’re passionate about ensuring that every child and young person has access to books that reflect authentic LGBTQ+ lives, experiences and themes.

Through publishing, creative workshops and community events, we aim to amplify underrepresented voices, inspire the next generation of readers and writers, and create spaces where everyone feels seen, valued and celebrated.

Suggested Donation

This event is free to attend, but we invite those who are able to make a suggested donation of £5. Every contribution goes directly towards supporting Faerie Press’s work, helping us continue publishing inclusive books and delivering creative community events. Donations are entirely optional.
