bobu fights for a world where no one has to calculate the cost of being themselves.
Every day, LGBTQ+ people scan a room before they walk in, assessing who’s safe, what to hide, and how to adapt. We call this The Calculation. It happens everywhere: workplaces, venues, healthcare, and everyday services where queer people have learned to check first and exist second.
bobu changes what “safe space” actually means through three core pillars:
Tools
Building practical resources for businesses and communities to embed genuine safety into their physical and cultural environments, including our LGBTQ+ Safety Toolkit and a bobu Resources for Hospitality and Retail.
Research
Uncovering the hard data behind queer lived experiences to evidence exactly where and why structural change is urgently needed, through partnerships with King’s College London and UCL.
Advocacy
Pushing institutions and decision-makers past passive tolerance and into real accountability, led by No Claim Without Training, our UK Parliament petition demanding that any business claiming to be a safe space back that claim with accredited staff training. We also run a weekly petition pop-up, third-party hate crime reporting and a quarterly Community Safety Forum.
