Wrestler Anthony Bowens went viral over the weekend with a social media posting.
Bowens was responding to a Pride Month tweet from Fightful Wrestling. The wrestling news account shared a photo of Bowens, with the words “Happy Pride” emblazoned across it. It also highlighted Bowen’s achievements as a professional grappler with All Elite Wrestling.
Perhaps mindful that not all wrestling fans would welcome the tweet, it turned off comments.
Bowens responded, saying, “Turn the comments on, I’m not afraid of those losers.”

Fightful Wrestling duly obliged and turned on the ability for folk to leave comments. Responding to someone commenting on the change, it replied, “The reason we keep them off is not to be a catalyst for hate. If a talent wants them on, we’re happy to!”

Rise to the top
Anthony Bowens was born and raised in New Jersey. He tried out for WWE in 2015 but was passed over. He later revealed that the feedback he got was that he looked great and performed magnificently in the ring. However, when he had a mic in his hand, he lacked personality.
Bowens realized he wasn’t able to project his personality because he was hiding a big part of himself.
He then worked the independent wrestling scene. He met his partner, Michael Pavano, and, in 2017, he decided he didn’t want to stay in the closet and came out as bisexual.
A couple of years later, he clarified that he defined himself as gay.
He signed with All Elite Wrestling in 2020. In September 2022, he made history as the first out-gay wrestler to win an AEW championship. At the time, he performed with tag-team partner Max Caster as ‘The Acclaimed’. They triumphed at the AEW Dynamite meet in New York City.
