The tale of the BBC hubris lawsuit continues, and it’s not looking great for Tr*mp.
Last week, a Florida judge told Tr*mp he’s got to hand over his financial records to the UK court, stat. On top of that, the president was told that everyone in his inner circle, from daughter Ivanka to enabler Stephen Miller, could be subpoenaed in the ongoing case. Now, that federal judge has officially entered an order for Tr*mp to “open his books” to the UK for discovery. And it’s all his own fault.
The source of the lawsuit was a BBC documentary segment that Tr*mp insists was edited in a misleading way to imply that he egged on J6 rioters to storm the Capitol in 2021. But because Tr*mp is claiming that the segment—which did not air in the US—caused reputational and financial harm to his businesses, the financial records related to said businesses are now fair game.
When the original ruling came down last week, the trust tried to fight back. But as of yesterday, U.S. Magistrate Judge Enjoliqué Lett struck down the arguments to keep the records private. Now, Tr*mp has to offer up the evidence of his pre-presidential business dealings to a foreign court.

That doesn’t necessarily mean that we’ll be privy to them: the UK courts will have access to documents in Tr*mp’s revocable trust, a legal holding meant to separate personal wealth from any wealth gained during the presidency.
Here’s the rub: we already know that Tr*mp has been able to pull in upwards of $2 billion during his second presidential term, mostly in crypto and coin sales. And while we don’t know what’s inside the books in the trust, if there’s any, say, evidence of scamming or other financial improprieties, it’ll all be in there. And what the UK courts decide to do with that information is up to them.
What’s clear here is that the “special relationship” between the US and the UK has come to a clear end with the Tr*mp presidency, a fact made clear by the Tate brothers’ arrest in Miami by a UK Special Envoy last weekend. The UK is flexing their muscle, and for once, Tr*mp isn’t able to buy his way out of a jam.
It gets worse, because apparently France hates us now too. Or at least, they hate the America that Tr*mp represents, which is also true for most American citizens at this point.
Last week on X, an official French government account tweeted that while the US “used to be a beacon” of human rights, we can now be classed alongside Russia, North Korea, and other authoritarian governments crushed under the heel of despotism. They ended the tweet with the hashtag #AmericaAlone.
I mean, fair. When you have a president who can strong arm Republicans in all branches of government to do exactly what he wants, the only remedy that’s going to show up is likely to come from outside the country.
But outsourcing justice to the UK is not a good look. With any luck, it will prove the final nail in the Tr*mp coffin.
