✨ Create Your Own Stained Glass: One-Day Workshop with Artist Emer O’Donnell
Design it. Make it. Take it home.
Discover the magic of stained glass in this immersive, hands-on one-day workshop with glass and stained glass artist
Emer O’Donnell
.
Whether you’re completely new to stained glass or have some experience already, this workshop gives you the opportunity to
create your own unique piece of stained glass
, rather than simply following a pre-selected design.
Emer will introduce you to the traditional
Tiffany copper foil technique
and guide you through each stage of the process, from developing your idea and choosing your glass through to cutting, foiling and soldering.
You’ll have the freedom to develop your own design, with Emer helping you turn your ideas into something that is both creative and achievable within the workshop. With plenty of individual guidance and support throughout the day, you’ll learn new skills while creating a piece that is genuinely your own.
With colour, texture and light to play with, you’ll spend the day learning, experimenting and making something beautiful with your own hands.
🎨 Your Design, Your Creation
One of the special things about this workshop is the
creative freedom to develop your own stained glass design
.
You may already have an idea in mind, or you can take inspiration from the beautiful colours, textures and shapes of the glass available on the day.
Emer will help you refine your idea and make practical decisions about the
size, shape and construction
of your piece so that it is realistic to complete during the workshop. She’ll guide you through the process while still giving you the freedom to make your own creative choices.
You don’t need to be an artist or have any previous stained glass experience.
Emer will guide you step by step and help you whenever you need it.
The aim isn’t for everyone to go home with the same piece.
It’s for you to create something that reflects your own ideas, choices and creativity.
✨ What You’ll Learn
During this full-day practical workshop, Emer will introduce you to the fundamental techniques involved in making stained glass, including:
🔪 Cutting and shaping glass
⚙️ Grinding and refining your pieces
🎨 Choosing and combining colours, textures and glass
🪟 Developing a design suitable for stained glass
🔶 Applying the Tiffany copper foil technique
🔥 Soldering your piece together
✨ Finishing your work ready to display
You’ll gain hands-on experience using traditional stained glass tools and materials while receiving
individual guidance and support from Emer throughout the day
.
🖼️ Take Home Something Truly Your Own
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have created your own finished stained glass piece to take home and display.
Every piece will be different because
every participant brings their own ideas, choices and creativity to the process
.
It’s not just a day learning how stained glass is made — it’s a chance to spend a day making something unique and personal.
👩‍🎨 Meet Your Tutor – Emer O’Donnell
Emer O’Donnell is an experienced glass artist, stained glass artist and teacher, with a background in both contemporary glassmaking and the restoration of stained glass in Ireland and the USA.
A graduate of
NCAD (National College of Art and Design)
, Emer has developed a distinctive approach to working with glass, exploring the way
colour, line, light and reflection
can transform a piece as you move around it and view it from different angles.
Her own glass practice combines traditional and contemporary techniques to create pieces that are visually intriguing and full of colour. She is particularly interested in how glass can interact with light and perspective, sometimes creating the illusion that a piece changes as you move around it.
Her experience in stained glass restoration, combined with her contemporary glass practice, gives Emer a wealth of knowledge to share with workshop participants.
But you don’t need to be an artist to benefit from her expertise.
Emer is a warm, patient and encouraging tutor who enjoys helping people discover what they can create with glass.
She will guide you through the techniques step by step, help you develop your ideas and give you individual support throughout the day.
Whether you arrive with a clear idea of what you’d like to make or simply want to experiment and see where your creativity takes you,
Emer will help you turn your ideas into a stained glass piece you can be proud of.
