Congratulations to partners Gus Kenworthy and Andrew Rigby, who became engaged this week!

Both men posted a carousel of photos on their Instagram accounts capturing the moment. The images reveal it was Kenworthy who got down on one knee and proposed to Rigby, a finance executive.

In a caption accompanying the photos, Kenworthy, a former Olympic skier, quipped, “He said he’d think about it! 🥹💍

The two men spoke exclusively to People about their engagement and revealed that the proposal took place in Mallorca, Spain, on Tuesday.

They first met briefly around a decade ago in Sydney. They reconnected more meaningfully in March 2024 in Guadalajara, Mexico, at a mutual friend’s 40th birthday celebrations, and went public with their relationship that same year.

Kenworthy, 34, was born in England, but his family relocated to the US when he was aged 3. He competed in four Olympic Winter Games, the first two for the US and the following two for Great Britain. He won a Silver Medal in 2014.

He came out as gay in 2015.

“I told Andrew I was taking him on a little adventure”

Talking about the proposal, Kenworthy told People, “We took a private dinghy from the pier at the St. Regis where we were having a cocktail by the beach at the Mar Sea Club. I told Andrew I was taking him on a little adventure. Once we got to the island we climbed off the dinghy and hiked up to the top of the cliffs.

“I organized for a picnic blanket to be waiting for us with a pitcher of margaritas — extra sweet because that’s how Andrew orders them,” he continues. “After the proposal, we got back on the dinghy — but instead of going back to the mainland, it took us out to a chartered boat.”

There, six of their friends were waiting to surprise Rigby and to celebrate with the couple.

Rigby said, “To say I was shocked was an understatement. And then to see our friends there immediately after Gus proposed? Wow.”

Kenworthy said he and Rigby had been to Europe for Berlin Pride, followed by World Pride in Amsterdam. They added Mallorca to the end of their trip as somewhere to relax after the more hectic Pride portions of their vacation. It struck Kenworthy as the perfect opportunity to propose.

For the first year of dating, the men enjoyed a long-distance relationship between Los Angeles and Sydney. In 2025, they both relocated to New York to live together.
