Michael Johnston, the star of this year’s massive horror hit, Obsession, is reportedly in talks for a role in Mummy 4. The movie will reunite the original cast of The Mummy: Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, and John Hannah.
The original Mummy movie came out in 1999. It was followed by The Mummy Returns in 2001, and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008 (although Weisz did not appear in that installment).

Helmed by Universal Studios, the as-yet-untitled Mummy 4 is expected to hit screens on October 15, 2027.
Variety and Deadline have both reported that Johnston is in early talks to take a role. No further details are known about where he might fit into the story.
Johnson’s rumoured participation in The Mummy 4 only further fuels queer fans’ interest in the long-awaited sequel. Some have claimed the original Mummy movies proved to be a gay/bi awakening for them, with some drawn to both Fraser and Weisz and their effortless onscreen chemistry.
Rise to stardom
Johnston’s breakout role was on MTV’s Teen Wolf between 2015 and 2017. He’s done many other small roles since then, including lots of voice acting for animated shows and video games. He also dabbled in music, releasing the track “Gravity” in 2024.
In the spring, Johnston starred as Bear in the Blumhouse production, Obsession. His character makes a wish that the woman he has a crush on falls in love with him… with unexpectedly nightmarish and gory results.
Directed by YouTuber Curry Barker, the R-rated horror movie was made for around $750,000. It’s gone on to gross over $400 million.
“Dream career”
Johnston’s role on Teen Wolf was playing gay teen Corey Bryant. He’s also gay in real life.
Earlier this year, talking to Anthem magazine, Johnston said he was blown away by how some viewers responded to his role on Teen Wolf. He said he received thousands of messages from fans saying thank you and “saying how much my character in Teen Wolf helped them. I had no idea what that representation would mean to so many people.
“I am very proud of who I am. But at the same time, I wasn’t sitting there thinking about how meaningful that representation would be. I approach every role with the same honesty and try to find the humanity in it. Love is universal—that’s how I approach every role. A character’s sexuality isn’t the first thing I’m looking at. It’s more important that I connect with the story.”
He added, “You know, I haven’t talked a lot about my personal life. I’m still trying to figure out how I want to navigate all of this. I think it’s nice when there’s some mystery around actors’ lives.”
As a performer with such an extensive back catalogue of voice work, he also suggested he’s not interested in people recognizing him in future roles.
“There are so many different types of roles I would like to play going forward. I want to be like Charlize Theron in Monster. I want to be in prosthetics, and you won’t even know it’s me. That is my dream career.”
Here’s hoping that any potential role in Mummy 4 doesn’t obscure his handsome looks too much!
