Mermaids in Northern Ireland was formerly known as SAIL (Support, Acceptance, Information and Learning).
Established in 2008, SAIL was a support organisation for the families of transgender and gender variant young people across Northern Ireland.
SAIL did many of the same things that Mermaids does: supporting trans young people and their families, and advocating for the issues that matter to trans youth.
In 2022, SAIL joined Mermaids as their Northern Ireland Service to create a bigger, stronger movement working together towards a world where trans children and young people can thrive.
