Tr*mp has made a few powerful enemies in the Iranian government, and while they haven’t made good on their threats so far, they’ve certainly managed to make a laughing stock of the president.
In new reporting from the Washington Post, we’re learning that Tr*mp wasn’t altogether honest about his ignoble exit from the NATO summit last month. While White House staffers believed themselves to be with Tr*mp on Air Force One, the president was secretly being smuggled to a smaller plane in a *checks notes* catering truck??
You heard that right.

Because of escalating safety threats, Tr*mp had to get out of dodge in the most cowardly way possible.
No one is surprised that he lied—but that lie, once uncovered, exposes the pageantry behind the whole Tr*mp operation. Because what do you mean Tr*mp staged a fake boarding of the old Air Force One (not the new, controversial Qatari gift) for camera and press before being secretly spirited into a smaller plane minutes later?
At the time, Tr*mp claimed his reasons for flying in the old Air Force One were sentimental and had nothing whatever to do with the new Qatari plane’s looming security concerns. Now we know the switch was part of a giant cover up. Tr*mp made it look to reporters like he’d flown out of Turkey in the old Air Force One. But in fact, while the old Air Force One took off for its “decoy” flight, Tr*mp crouched in an airport catering supply vehicle as he made his way to the actual plane that took him stateside.
We might not have footage of this ridiculous event, but it’s playing out in the national imagination already like something straight out of Veep. “Anytime the president is in a theater where there’s potential combat danger, the Secret Service has employed protective counter measures including the use of a decoy,” a former Secret Service agent told the New York Times.
Sure… but did they have to choose quite such a goofy decoy?
After this screw-up, we may have finally discovered the real reason for JD Vance as VP: the ranch-filled private plane he takes everywhere acts as the perfect get-out-of-dodge vehicle.
The switcheroo was the result of a “credible threat” made to the president by Iran, and we only know about because certain White House insiders are now spilling the tea… on condition of anonymity. They probably knew exactly how this would look: weak, sloppy, and clown car-level hilarious. Commentators are already accusing Tr*mp of not only lying, but “hiding like a b*tch” and creating a “Weekend at Bernie’s” situation similar to his pal Mitch McConnell’s recent game of hide and seek. Humiliating doesn’t even begin to cover it.
The Hill columnist Niall Stanage, however, said it best: “It doesn’t particularly inspire me with confidence that the president of the United States is hiding in a catering truck.”

Even if the plan technically worked, the media coverage has everyone doubling over with laughter. It’s not exactly giving strength and fortitude… but with Tr*mp, it never is.
