Place Description: Home-Start provides a unique service for families – recruiting and training volunteers to support parents with young children at home. Home-Start volunteers visit families at home each week, supporting parents in situations as diverse as isolation, bereavement, multiple births, illness, disability or who are just finding parenting a struggle. They provide non-judgemental, practical and emotional support and help build the familiy’s confidence and ability to cope. At Home-Start we support any parent with young children who asks for our help and our supported families, like our volunteers, come from all walks of life.
Parents’ Walking Group – Families meet with other Families, Volunteers and Staff once a week for social support, exercise and play opportunities for the children. Online Counselling – Parents with at least one child under 5, can be referred for four free online counselling session with an BACP Accredited Psychotherapist. Online Mellow Parenting Programme – Parents with at least one child under 5 can be referred to the Mellow Parenting Programme to discuss parenting and family issues with trained facilitators and other parents.
19 week free Baby programme for parents with babies (0<5months) in Craigavon Borough area outside of Sure-Start areas. Includes baby massage, baby's brain development, parenting programme, introduction to community supports & local activities, health professionals input, baby's brain development, play and sensory bags, sleep advice and support.

Volunteers who are parents themselves are recruited and trained to visit families who have difficulties and or problems related to child protection, mental health, disabilities, drug and alcohol misuse, isolation, multiple births, deprivation and domestic violence. Home-Start supports families across the four levels of need and believes that the earlier you intervene in a childs life the better their chances of growing up healthy and happy. Volunteers go into the family home to help parents and children feel less marginalised and families develop improved coping strategies. Home-Start support is flexible and tailor made as parents co-design their own support, identifying needs and are involved in assessing and reviewing their progress.
The following services are available in the Newry and Mourne Area :
Family Groups – Children have Toys, Fun and Activities. They do games music and rhymes. Parties and Outings are arranged. Healthy Refreshments are provided and children are encouraged to socialise.
Parents can make new friends, have a break from normal routine, share skills and ideas, learn new parenting skills and avail of friendly, confidential support from staff if they have any concerns.
Kilkeel Family Group – Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings 9.30 am to 11.30 am. Annalong Family Group – Wednesday mornings 9.30 am to 11.30 am. Rapid Response Service is tailored to meet the individual needs of every family.
The Rapid Response worker will work closely with parents and offer friendly support to families. This short term, intensive, home based support promotes parenting skills and provides practical guidance to achieve positive change and development for families.
The Rapid Response worker is available to support parents in their home if they feel this would help them to gain confidence in establishing new techniques and routine.
The worker will carry out a planned piece of work with each family. This will invlove encouraging and supporting parents in a number of specific parenting tasks such as behaviour management, bedtime or mealtime routines, household management, budgeting, nutrition and bonding and attachment.

Roe Valley Residents Association seek to address the inequalities that residents face under the themes of Education, Economic, Environmental, Health and Social activities are offered to the ever-increasing numbers of residents availing of the community centre facilities. Such activities provided across 2 facilities, the Community House and the Youth & Community Hub and include educational programmes such as Essential Skills (Numeracy, Literacy and IT) and skills-based courses: including weekly craft classes, youth clubs, drugs and alcohol programmes, environmental workshops, gardening projects, citizenship programmes, good relations programmes, physical activity and programmes aimed at addressing suicide and mental health problems.

Place Description: It is widely recognised that the areas of Ardoyne and Shankill are amongst the most disadvantaged in Northern Ireland across a range of themes. Ardoyne and Shankill are ranked 7th and 1st respectively out of 582 electoral wards when it comes to Multiple Deprivation.
ASHP believe that they are best placed to dramatically change the lives of individuals in the Ardoyne and Shankill communities. Their partnership approach to community development has been one of the main ingredients for their success to date. It has also meant that ASHP are better placed to deliver health promotion services to local people than statutory agencies.
The Aim of the Ardoyne/Shankill Health Partnership is to ‘improve the health of the people of Ardoyne and Shankill by increasing the length of their lives’.
Ardoyne/Shankill Health Partnership (ASHP) provides many programmes, which are accessable by all of the people of the Ardoyne and Shankill communities, no matter what their age. After all health knows NO boundaries.
