Actor and singer Frankie Grande had to take a couple of days off from appearing in Titaníque after experiencing an on-stage accident.
Grande originated the dual roles of ship’s captain Victor Garber and shipbuilder/plumber Luigi (as in Super Mario Bros.) for the show’s debut in 2018. He’s now reprising the role on Broadway at the St. James Theatre.
At one point in the show, he throws a pink ship wheel into the air and catches it.
He’s done it hundreds of times without incident… until last Thursday when he missed. It struck him in the face.

Ouch!
“Serving face, literally!” Grande said on Instagram, alongside a photo of the aforementioned wheel and a photo of his facial injury.
“In Thursday’s showstopper moment, I launched the wheel into the air… and my nose caught it before my hands did! Turns out, being gay doesn’t give me catching superpowers. So, I gave myself a little ‘ouchie’ (okay, maybe a concussion) Out of the show ’til tomorrow. Catch you soon, my loves!”
Yesterday, Grande shared a dressing-room photo to his stories about returning to the role. A small scar is still visible on his nose.
Supergay memoir
When not busy with Titaníque, Grande has also been promoting his new memoir, Supergay. The book is a collection of essays that cover everything from his Broadway career to his journey with sobriety and self-acceptance. It hit bookstores at the end of last month. Grande himself also narrated the audio version.
Kiehl’s
Grande also went viral last week with a video calling out skincare brand Kiehl’s. Grande shared a video of a content creator asking people in the street to name gay icons. To his delight, someone said “Frankie Grande.”
After re-sharing the video, one commentator posted a shady reply, quipping, “Whoever said Frankie Grande really wants those Ari tickets!!” with laughing emojis.
Grande was unfazed and is used to such internet humor. However, he was rankled when the official Kiehl’s social media account responded to the commentator, saying, “Hey, we can’t blame them, the hustle for those Ari tickets is so real! We love the humor you’re bringing to our glowing community today!”
Grande said the comment from a well-known brand “really hurt me.”
“How can you say we love the humor you’re ‘bringing to our glowing community’ when it’s literally a hate comment?”
