Derwentside Detached Youth Project (DDYP) is a charitable organisation that works to support young people aged 10–16 years in the Consett and wider Derwentside area. Our main aim is to improve the quality of life for young people, especially those who are “hard to reach.” We want to raise their aspirations, build their self-esteem, and offer them new opportunities.
We do this by providing a variety of exciting activities, qualifications, and issue-based solutions. We also focus on improving their physical and emotional well-being and developing their skills, including teaching them about youth safety and how to be environmentally aware. Our work is focused on empowering young people to lead and take ownership of their futures. We listen to what young people need, whether it’s related to social activities, health, or education, and we help them achieve their personal goals. We even offer support with things like CV writing, job searching, and crisis support, or just being a friendly face to talk to.
