It is widely recognised that the areas of Ardoyne and Shankill are amongst the most disadvantaged in Northern Ireland across a range of themes. Ardoyne and Shankill are ranked 7th and 1st respectively out of 582 electoral wards when it comes to Multiple Deprivation.
ASHP believe that they are best placed to dramatically change the lives of individuals in the Ardoyne and Shankill communities. Their partnership approach to community development has been one of the main ingredients for their success to date. It has also meant that ASHP are better placed to deliver health promotion services to local people than statutory agencies.
The Aim of the Ardoyne/Shankill Health Partnership is to ‘improve the health of the people of Ardoyne and Shankill by increasing the length of their lives’.

MindWise is a leading membership-based mental health charity in Northern Ireland. For over 50 years, we have been working with and for people of all ages directly affected by mental health issues, as well as families, carers, employers, and teachers.
MindWise empowers those who use our advocacy services to take the lead in securing the rights and services to which they are entitled. We offer support to ensure that views are heard, representation, help to resolve issues, and protection for those who are particularly vulnerable or unable to make informed decisions. Advocacy can be provided long-term or for short-term crisis needs.
Northern Ireland Appropriate Adult Service (NIAAS) provides support for all juveniles who are mentally vulnerable and/or disordered while detained in custody.
MindWise also provides mental health housing support across supported living schemes in Northern Ireland. We offer temporary accommodation in our hostel in East Belfast for individuals experiencing homelessness and mental health issues. Our South Down Tenancy Support service works with clients in their own tenancies in the community to empower them and maintain their tenancy long-term.
MindWise runs a range of workshops and programmes for children and young people, including our Beyond Bricks Lego therapy play for kids and our Bloom programme for young people. Family Wellness Service that seeks to support families and new parents with their mental health and wellbeing. We also provide psychological interventions through our Talking Therapies Service and WiseTalking Pilot Project.

YouthAction NI arrange a wide range of youth work programmes and recruit young people constantly. We also provide training for young people and adults in models of youth work. We are a membership orgainisation and youth projects who become a member can received a range of free programmes, resources and training as well as support form a youth worker.
Youthstart:
is an exciting new youth work partnership between 7 leading youth charities. Youthstart is a youth employability programme that uses a youth work approach to build young people/s skills for life, learning and work. This project is open to 16-30 year old’s who are furthest from the labour market (NEET) and reside in areas of high levels of economic inactivity. The project offers: Tailored 1-to-1 support Personal journey plan Personal development Mental health and well-being Learning skills Work skills
Ideas Fund
This project offers young people mental health and well being sessions. This programme is offered to groups of young people aged 14-26. Helps to build resilience in young people. On this project we offer workshops on altruism, journaling, LifeMaps and peer mentoring.
BCM works to help the whole person through its professional social care programme and cross-community projects throughout Northern Ireland. “To work with people in Northern Ireland to improve their lives” Whilst of Methodist origins BCM provides support on a “need not creed” basis.
Strength 2 Strength
is an early intervention community-based programme provided to children, aged 8-13, and their families, who are assessed as being ‘in need’. The programme is a level 2 provision. The programme takes a holistic approach to the family, encouraging healthy development, safety, stability and a positive future. The programme accepts referrals from all community and statutory agencies. Programme content includes focused group work, individual work, educational support, family/ group respite overnights and day trips and parenting support.

Short Stay Break Service (SSBS) Programme:
The Short Stay Break Service (SSBS)offers respite, safety and support for children and young people aged 7 years old up to and including 17 years old, who are experiencing difficulties, which may be putting them at risk of family and / or placement breakdown who are actively involved with the Western Health and Social Care Trust.
Short Stay Break Service can provide the appropriate support at a time of crisis that can help prevent further deterioration of family and placement relationships. The most vulnerable young people often need a separate safe space to explore their difficulties and work through comping strategies. A Short Stay Break offered at the right time can make the difference between a child entering the care system or their Looked After Placement ending. The Short Stay Break is offered to support children and young people to overcome the temporary difficulties they are experiencing and provide the coping strategies to facilitate healthy relationships and continued living with the family setting.

Home-Start provides a unique service for families – recruiting and training volunteers to support parents with young children at home. Home-Start volunteers visit families at home each week, supporting parents in situations as diverse as isolation, bereavement, multiple births, illness, disability or who are just finding parenting a struggle. They provide non-judgemental, practical and emotional support and help build the familiy’s confidence and ability to cope. At Home-Start we support any parent with young children who asks for our help and our supported families, like our volunteers, come from all walks of life.
Parents’ Walking Group – Families meet with other Families, Volunteers and Staff once a week for social support, exercise and play opportunities for the children. Online Counselling – Parents with at least one child under 5, can be referred for four free online counselling session with an BACP Accredited Psychotherapist. Online Mellow Parenting Programme – Parents with at least one child under 5 can be referred to the Mellow Parenting Programme to discuss parenting and family issues with trained facilitators and other parents.
19 week free Baby programme for parents with babies (0<5months) in Craigavon Borough area outside of Sure-Start areas. Includes baby massage, baby's brain development, parenting programme, introduction to community supports & local activities, health professionals input, baby's brain development, play and sensory bags, sleep advice and support.

The School Nursing department delivers a service of child health surveillance, immunisations, health promotion, assessment of health need, implementation of care plans, referral and signposting to other services and safeguarding children work. The service is delivered to children and young people aged 4-18 years and their families, in the school, home and community settings
Work in partnership with mainstream schools to try and maintain pupils places in mainstream education. work on emotional, social, behavioural issues. Outreach support also given to pupils – work with Social Services other agencies and parents.
Home-Start provides support to families at home helping parents to build better lives for their children. Volunteers who are parents themselves are recruited and trained to visit families who have difficulties and or problems related to child protection, mental health, disabilities, drug and alcohol misuse, isolation, multiple births, deprivation and domestic violence. Home-Start supports families across the four levels of need and believes that the earlier you intervene in a childs life the better their chances of growing up healthy and happy. Volunteers go into the family home to help parents and children feel less marginalised and families develop improved coping strategies. Home-Start support is flexible and tailor made as parents co-design their own support, identifying needs and are involved in assessing and reviewing their progress.
The following services are available in the Newry and Mourne Area :
Family Groups – Children have Toys, Fun and Activities. They do games music and rhymes. Parties and Outings are arranged. Healthy Refreshments are provided and children are encouraged to socialise.
Parents can make new friends, have a break from normal routine, share skills and ideas, learn new parenting skills and avail of friendly, confidential support from staff if they have any concerns.
Kilkeel Family Group – Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings 9.30 am to 11.30 am. Annalong Family Group – Wednesday mornings 9.30 am to 11.30 am. Rapid Response Service is tailored to meet the individual needs of every family.
The Rapid Response worker will work closely with parents and offer friendly support to families. This short term, intensive, home based support promotes parenting skills and provides practical guidance to achieve positive change and development for families.
The Rapid Response worker is available to support parents in their home if they feel this would help them to gain confidence in establishing new techniques and routine.
The worker will carry out a planned piece of work with each family. This will invlove encouraging and supporting parents in a number of specific parenting tasks such as behaviour management, bedtime or mealtime routines, household management, budgeting, nutrition and bonding and attachment.
