The Sharing the Care Short Break Service means that children with disabilities can spend some time with other families who are carefully chosen and vetted by Trust staff. The purpose of this is two-fold: To enhance the quality of a child’s life by providing opportunities to make new friends, and the chance to enjoy new experiences. To offer parents with a disabled child some respite, which literally means a ‘period of rest’. During that time they can ‘recharge their batteries’, spend some free time together, or with other family members, thereby enabling them to cope better with the demands of disabilitiesAccess to the service is gained via the childrens disability team subject to service criteria and an assessment of need.Contacts :-Ballymena Service, Slemish Community Services Centre Braid Valley Hospital Site Cushandall Road Ballymena Telephone: 028 2563 5640Carrickfergus Service Ellis Street Complex Ellis Street Carrickfergus Telephone: 028 9331 5114Ballymoney Service Armour Day Centre, 6 Newal Road, Ballymoney BT53 6HD Telephone: 028 2766 1840Magherafelt Service Sperrin House 43, Queens Avenue Magherafelt Telephone: 028 7930 1700
