The Marra Project is a not-for-profit organisation which aims to reach and support queer, neurodiverse, and disabled people through providing sober spaces to connect in the North East, particularly in Durham.
‘Marra’ comes from the pitmatic dialect of Northeastern English mining communities, meaning your friend or best mate who has your back. It’s the person you can rely on.
Currently, we run several monthly creative events as well as working on other short-term projects like Pride of Place. Our current events are:
Queer Life Drawing – An online life drawing session working exclusively queer models.
Queer Discord Durham – An online community for queer people around the county.
Trans Craft – A crafting group for trans/gender non-confirming queer people.
Life Drawing at Palace Green – An in-person life drawing session for all abilities.
Transoup – A social and evening meal for Trans, and gender nonconforming people
At The Marra Project we want to be your marra when you need a helping hand, whether that’s a space to find like-minded people, a place to work on a project, or someone to signpost support.
