Cryptid Queers

We are a not for profit arts initiative aimed at growing a vibrant community around the shared interest of monster drag. We deliver workshops which guide new performers through the process of creating their own drag persona and creating their first act. We support workshop participants through the process of rehearsing and preparing for their first show where they make their debut amongst their fellow monsters and in front of a supportive and friendly crowd. Cryptid Queers has spent the last 3.5 years working to uplift monster drag – from a city with no dedicated platforms to alternative drag and one drag monster in the city we are now grandparents to emerging alt drag shows produced by our first generation of workshop participants and have guided over 20 new artists to try alternative drag, find their community, and thrive on stage since we began the Camp Cryptid workshop and show last year. We have found it’s been a vital resource for many to have a space which is both alternative and queer and to have that mentorship and platform to perform.
