The service is contactable between 8.30am-4.30pm Monday to Friday.
The Adult Eating Disorder Service provides a service for men and women in the Belfast and South Eastern Trust areas who are 18-years-old and above, and suffering from severe and complex anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and atypical eating disorders that resemble anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa.
The service is community based but can provide an in-reach service if hospital admission is required.
The Adult Eating Disorder Service does not provide interventions for the treatment of binge-eating disorder, simple obesity, body dysmorphic disorder or disordered eating that can arise out of general emotional disturbance.
The care and treatment offered will aim to address the physical, psychological and social needs of the patients and their families.
Your treatment team can provide a range of skilled interventions based on your assessed physical, psychological and social needs. Your treatment plan will be agreed with you and may include:
Structured psychotherapy such as CBT-E, CBT, MANTRA, MBT etc
Specialist Supportive Clinical Management
Family work
Motivational enhancement therapy
Skills-based training for families and carers
Dietetic counselling
Nutritional rehabilitation
We ask that you attend your appointments and show a willingness to engage in treatment.
Treatment may include:
Weight restoration
Improved eating behaviours
Reduction in unhelpful eating behaviours
Clarification of diagnosis
Stable biochemistry
Improved psychological functioning
Ability to pursue vocational goals
Improved family and social relationships
Phased transition from an inpatient stay to day care and specialist outpatient treatment
Co-working with other mental health teams if appropriate
How to access this Service Contact your GP in the first instance
. Your GP will assess you and may refer you to specialist services in your area. Some patients may be treated successfully by primary and secondary care.

An out-of-hours GP service operates weekdays from 6:00pm-8:00am at weekends and during Bank Holidays.
